4 Days Selous & Mikumi Safari

Day 1: Drive from Dar es Salaam to Selous – Boat Safari

You shall wake up early and as soon as your expert guide picks you from the airport or Dar es Salam, you depart and drive to Selous in a journey through changing landscapes — from crowded markets to the open expanse of the southern bush. By midday, upon your arrival in Nyerere National park, you encounter the Selous River into view, its waters glinting under the sun.

With the boat ready, you shall step aboard, the engine humming to life as the river carries you deeper into the wild. Crocodiles lurk just beneath the surface, their eyes glinting like polished stones. Hippos grunt and splash in the shallows, sending ripples across the water. Overhead, fish eagles soar, their cries echoing through the trees.

As the sun dips low, you shall dock and head to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Selous

You shall rise before the sun, when the is still air crisp and cool and set up immediately for the Selous. The bush is alive with movement — a herd of elephants marches through the grass, their massive forms creating a slow-moving wave across the plains. Lions slink through the undergrowth, eyes fixed on a grazing herd of impalas.

The day flows seamlessly as you venture deeper into the park with your mid-morning game drive, eyes scanning for the flash of a leopard’s tail or the shadow of a cheetah slipping through the grass. The day winds down with the sunset, painting the sky in hues of crimson and gold as you return to the lodge for a night under the African sky.

Day 3: Drive to Mikumi – Afternoon Game Drive

Today, you leave Selous behind, the scent of the river still clinging to your clothes as you head for Mikumi. Enjoy this exciting drive as the road stretches out like a ribbon of dust in the bush giving way to open plains.

Without missing a beat, as soon as you arrive Mikumi in the afternoon, drive straight into the park, eyes peeled for elephants fanning their ears, giraffes nibbling at acacia trees, and buffaloes clustered around a waterhole. The afternoon fades into evening as you pull into your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive in Mikumi – Return to Dar es Salaam

Enjoy your last stay in Mikumi and embark on an exciting morning game drive just before you leave the park. In your morning game drive, experience the park awakening slowly, a lion’s roar echoing through the bush, birds flitting through the trees. Take your time ccapturing those final, fleeting moments — a zebra kicking up dust, a hippo slipping beneath the water’s surface, a lioness watching from the shade.

As the sun climbs higher, you shall begin the journey back to Dar es Salaam, each passing mile pulling you further from the wild and closer to the city.
