5 Days Mikumi & Nyerere Safari

Day 1: Drive from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi – Afternoon Game Drive

Upon arrival in Dar es Salam, you shall wake up early, and immediately embark on a drive to Mikumi in a rewarding journey through changing landscapes — from busy streets to open savanna, from crowded markets to endless grasslands.

After a few hours of driving, have lunch at a roadside Tanzanian restaurant, a simple meal of grilled chicken and rice washed down with a cold soda.

As soon as you arrive in Mikumi National Park, this is where the wild comes to life. Immediately, embark on a rewarding game drive as you spot elephants bathing in muddy pools, giraffes nibbling on treetops, and lions lounging beneath the shade of acacia trees.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Mikumi

Today is yet another day to explore Mikumi, you therefore wake up with the sunrise, the cool morning air heavy with the scent of wet grass and proceed for a transfer to the Mikumi’s vast plains in search of wildlife.

Watch as zebras trot across the plains, their stripes a blur against the golden grass. A herd of buffaloes grazes, eyes wary as a troop of baboons chatters in the trees.

Have packed lunch in the bush, the air alive with the calls of birds and the rustle of leaves, as the day cools, lions emerge from their shady hideouts, and elephants gather at waterholes. Return to the lodge for a hearty dinner and a night beneath the African sky.

Day 3: Drive to Nyerere – Evening Game Drive

You shall leave Mikumi behind, the memories of roaring lions and grazing elephants still fresh and begin another chapter of adventure, drive to Nyerere, a journey into the untamed, where the air grows thicker and the bush denser.

On your way to Nyerere, you shall have a stop for a simple lunch of grilled fish and plantains or anything depending on your desire. Proceed and later embark on an evening game drive straight into the bush upon your arrival in Nyerere. The Rufiji River snakes through the park, crocodiles lurking just beneath the surface, while hippos snort and grunt in the shallows.

Day 4: Full Day Boat Safari in Nyerere

Today, you shall swap wheels for water as you glide down the Rufiji River. The river is a lifeline — a place where animals gather to drink and predators wait in the shallows.

In the morning, drift along the river, eyes scanning for crocodiles slipping into the water and elephants dipping their trunks to drink.

A picnic lunch on the riverbank, the air heavy with the scent of damp earth and sun-warmed reeds. Continue cruising as the sun casts long shadows over the river, the sky turning pink and gold. You later return to the lodge for a final dinner beneath the stars.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive – Return to Dar es Salaam

You shall rise with the first light of the day before you enjoy your last game drive through Nyerere, eyes scanning the horizon for a flash of a leopard’s tail or the slow march of a buffalo herd among other great sightings.

Have a hearty breakfast at the lodge and embark on a return drive to Dar es Salam, with excitement memories of the wild slipping away behind you as the city looms closer.
